Interventional Systems 2021 Wrap-Up and Look-Ahead

INS 2021 wrap up

It’s the beginning of a new year, so it’s also time to wrap up 2021 and have a close look into what’s coming up for 2022!

2021 sure came with a mix between fear and expectation, but we’re happy to tell you there’s more more things to be happy than sad about on our end.

This one is gonna take a little longer than usual but make sure to read through the whole thing – we have a huge announcement for 2022. Shall we begin?

Looking Back Into the First Year of Micromate

Now that we’re well into the first year of Micromate installations and usage, we’re in a safe enough place to share some specific data points on our robot’s performance when compared with the conventional approach. Here’s what we found out:

If this isn’t enough good news on Micromate’s end, let us take you through even more interesting news.

Micromate takes on the World

Having outstanding numbers to show regarding Micromate’s performance is great and all, but what’s amazing performance data good for if you can’t have Micromate’s magic happen everywhere in the world?

Fortunately, we got the US, China, South Korea, the Gulf region and Turkey (some of which are still pending regulatory approval) to join us in this trip to spread Micromate, so you can currently find us in almost every continent (Oceania, we’re looking at you).

For the Chinese market specifically, we decided to go all-in with a brand new joint venture with a new strategic partner, Ningbo Hicrena China-based spine and sports medicine equipment company. We’ll be working together to bring Micromate’s amazing set of features into the Chinese operating rooms.

And as for our joint venture over in the US, Accelus (formerly known as Fusion Robotics), things are looking really well too: less than one year after starting working with our robot, Accelus managed to sign a business combination agreement with CHP Merger Corp.

2022: Micromate Navi+ is Coming!

We told you we were saving the most interesting part for the very end!

In Q2 2022, we’re launching our planning and navigation station, which will make Micromate Navi+ the first all-in-one medical robotics platform for percutaneous procedures.

Micromate Navi+ will support fluoroscopy, spiral CT and ultrasound guidance, as well as a navigation workflow.

Our long-term vision around Micromate Navi+ is to shift the “control panel” of an interventional suite from the imaging device (where currently all is done) to the robot, as it is by definition an enabling technology, interfacing both the imaging device and the instruments.

We’re very excited to be sharing this piece of information with you, so stay tuned to get more details on Micromate Navi+, the product that’s bound to change percutaneous procedures once and for all!

Treating trigeminal neuralgia with robotic-assisted thermocoagulation

We sat down with Prof. Reto Bale, Deputy Director of the Department of Radiology and the Head of the Section of Interventional Oncology / Stereotaxy and Robotics at the Medical University of Innsbruck (Tirol Kliniken), to walk through the condition, the available treatments, and the role robotic precision plays in improving outcomes. At Innsbruck, that technology is Micromate.

ATEC Spine Launches Valence, a Robotic Navigation System for Spine Surgery

ATEC Spine has commercially launched Valence, a fully integrated robotic and navigation system for spine surgery.¹ For us at Interventional Systems, this is a milestone worth acknowledging: Valence is built on the miniature robotic technology we developed, which found its way into the spine market through Fusion Robotics and eventually into ATEC’s hands via their acquisition of Accelus in 2023.
